My Visit to the Chennai Book Fair 2013 and Haul!

I love reading books. They are my best companions :) Also since I usually travel to long distances nothing beats boredom than a suspense thriller :)

The Book fair in Chennai is held every year in the month of January and I have been visiting it for 7 or 8 years!FYI, this is the 36th book fair with about 747 stalls and 450 participants! 10 lakh titles and 1 crore books!

I visited it yesterday and walked like a zombie :P I am planning to visit it again. It is like a whole world of books where I can get trapped and not even realize ;)

Sharing some pictures :)

Sorry for the low quality pictures I didn't take my cam plus I was so engrossed in the stalls that I nearly forgot to take snaps :P

And My haul :

What's inside those bags???? My mum was super sweet and bought me so many books since I am officially broke :D  Luv u Mum :* :*

I wanted to get the Life is what u make it and 7 Secrets of Shiva too :P

There was this offer in one of d stalls (don't remember d name) where u could take 3 novels for 100 bucks. That was too gud an offer to pass. But the novels were really old and mostly adult stuff.I had to wade thru a lot to get these 3.

James patterson is one of my favorites and I have heard a lot about the Stephanie Plum series from the firangi book forums. The Karen Robards one I got on impluse :)

And the Dessert of Yday ;)

No Book shopping is complete without Ruskin Bond! I got this unabridged collection of his books. It has :
  • The Room on the Roof
  • Vagrants On the valley
  • Flight of Pigeons
  • Delhi is not Far
  • The Sensualist
  • A handful of nuts
I own most of his other books except the ghost collections.I am not much inclined to get them as I am terrified of ghosts and ghost stories :( Let's see if I do muster up some courage to get them :)

And yes this is what I wore yday!

So that's it! Have a gud day and Chennaites do visit the book fair :)

P.S: That is officially the first Book haul of 2013! keeping fingers crossed to reach my target :)
P.P.S: The books are available on online sites at lower rates but nothing can beat real time shopping! What say?? ;)

Bridge to Nature : Ruskin Bond Part 1 !

There are some things in life u can never forego. For some it is Kajal for others it is a hot pink lipstick. And for me it is The Bond Ruskin Bond! His books are an absolute treasure. I enjoy his books no less than the Dan Brown bestsellers.

I have already written my views on my favorite book :

Rain in the Mountains

I own atleast 10 books of his and thse 2 I keep for re reads :)

All Roads Lead to Ganga talks about the valley stretches of Mandakini and Alakananda...the serendipity of the Tungnath...the first rays of the Sun through the snow clad mountains. For a battered soul this is like Tomato soup :) Calmness and warmth delivered straight to the soul.
This is a must read :)

Funny Side Up is a not exactly a full speed laugh riot but makes u smile and laugh at the good humored sarcasm and digs of the author. He has a knack for observing and jotting down even the tiny details which serves well his jocular take on life :) Another must read in my IMO ;)

If you live a stressful life I suggest u replace ur caffeine with his books!

I will try to write about his other books in due course :)

Rain In The Mountains:Book Review!!

Today I am gonna confess my deepest secret:P
“I would choose Books over Makeup any day!”

If am stranded on a deserted island I would ask the genie for Ruskin Bond books :P
Am a Ruskin Bond fanatic!!Reading his books gives me a sense of inner peace and special power of imagination ;) I love his style and ease of writing. The way he transforms mundane encounters to riveting reads is mind blowing!! U must be a Ruskin Bond fan to get what I mean :)

Now to the actual review:
I loved the cover photo!!I don’t usually judge a book by its cover but for people who do it is definitely a hit :)

Rain in the mountains is like a collection of eclectic anecdotes from the daily life of Mr.Bond.It is a refreshing change from the adrenaline rush kind of books like Dan Brown and Patricia Briggs! His artistic and vivid descriptions of the trees, rain, summer, flowers, mountains and all things nature drive me crazy to spend my vacations in Dehradun and Missouri. I so badly want to take a walk through the hill roads, shop at the old bazaar and drink hot sweet tea...mmmmm it would be bliss!!Purely bliss!!Rejuvenates ur body and soul!!
His humorous takes on life and chronicles on the characters in his life make this book worth reading. We live in a fast paced world where we don’t spare a glance to our fellow passenger but here is a man who forces u to stop and enjoy the simple yet pleasant things of life through his words.
If u want a breath of fresh air then GRAB it soon :)
